Elma BRIDGE Project Aims to Connect Trails and Community

Exciting improvements are on the horizon for Elma’s trail system! The BRIDGE organization is moving forward with plans to enhance the popular walking and biking path, with hopes of completing the project in 2026.

The new addition will connect to the current bike trail and trailhead in Elma, extending south with a handicap-accessible trail. Plans include building a concrete ramp on the north entrance of the walk-through bridge and adding 450 feet of sidewalk to reach the Elma Museum (the old depot). From there, the trail will continue another 150 feet south to connect with Maple Street and Elma Memorial Park.
As part of the project, the bridge will also receive a fresh look with Diamond Kote wood-grain siding, a long-lasting material that won’t require painting or repairs.

The total project cost is estimated at $41,646.08. To help bring this project to life, the BRIDGE organization will be seeking grants and community donations. Those wishing to contribute can mail donations to: City of Elma, P.O. Box 497, Elma, IA 50628.

This project will not only improve accessibility but also strengthen the connection between key landmarks in Elma, making it easier for residents and visitors alike to enjoy the town’s rich history and outdoor spaces.
