‘Tossed and Found’ announces Fall Charitable Grant recipients

Elma, IA.– The the Tossed & Found thrift store announced the recipients of its September 2024 Charitable Grant Program.

The non-profit store opened in mid-year 2008 and is under the fiscal oversight of The BRIDGE Organization Inc. Located at 321 Main Street, across from Security State Bank, the store accepts donations of good, used items, then resells them with net proceeds given out to 501c3 non-profit or government entity groups in the communities of Elma, Alta Vista, Lourdes & Riceville for community better projects & programs. Grants are awarded in two annual grant cycles each year– March and September. The 2024 September cycle resulted in a total of $5000 being awarded to qualified applicants/projects and since 2008 the store has awarded over $43,900 toward community projects, as well as purchasing over $26,500 in “Welcome to Elma “ banners and donating over $550 in its annual Kid’s Shopping Day each December for local youth.

This most recent grant cycle awarded the following groups & projects in the area:

1. Alta Vista Firefighters Association received $1000 toward a $35,342 project to purchase extrication tools.

2. Elma’s Calvary Cemetery received $1000 toward a $15,000 project to create a cemetery directory.

3. Elma Early Childhood Center received $650 toward a $12,960 project to purchase safer furnishings & Materials.

4. Elma Memorial Board received $750 toward a $10,000 project to replace tables & chairs.

5. City of Elma Park Board received $600 toward a $2,836.50 project to re-paint the grandstand interior/benches.

6. Elma Public Library received $500 toward a $2290 project to purchase an AED/defibrillator.

7. Firefighters of Elma received $500 toward a $2000 project to purchase more maintenance tools.
