‘Tossed and Found’ announces Charitable Grant recipients

Elma, IA.– The the Tossed & Found thrift store announced the recipients of its March 2024 Charitable Grant Program.

The non-profit store opened in mid-year 2008 and is under the fiscal oversight of The BRIDGE Organization Inc. Located at 321 Main Street, across from Security State Bank, the store accepts donations of good, used items, then resells them with net proceeds given out to 501c3 non-profit or government entity groups in the communities of Elma, Alta Vista, Lourdes & Riceville for community better projects & programs. Grants are awarded in two annual grant cycles each year– March and September. The 2024 March cycle resulted in a total of $5000 being awarded to qualified applicants/projects and since 2008 the store has awarded over $38,000 toward community projects, as well as purchasing over $26,500 in “Welcome to Elma “ banners and donating over $550 in its annual Kid’s Shopping Day each December for local youth.

This most recent grant cycle awarded the following groups & projects in the area:

1. Alta Vista Days Committee was awarded $600 toward their “Welcome to Alta Vista “ signage project.

2. Alta Vista Public Library was awarded $200 toward their Summer Reading and Alta Vista Days programs.

3. Elma Early Childhood Center was awarded $1000 toward their Playground Mats & Storage Unit project.

4. Elma Public Library was awarded $900 toward their Furnishings Replacement project.

5. City of Elma Park Board was awarded $1000 toward their Tree Removal/Replacement project.

6. City of Elma Splash Pad was awarded $300 toward an upcoming Community Picnic project

7. The Riceville Food Pantry was awarded $1000 toward their Let’s Eat Our Fruit & Vegetables project.
